So, what exactly is a doula anyway?

You have already researched and found the best doctor, the best midwife, the best hospital. Oh and don't forget, the best car seat to bring your little bundle home. Or, maybe you are newly pregnant and are just starting your journey. You have heard about doulas, but you have a lot of questions and you aren't even sure what they do. Well...we are here to help.

We agree that the word doula sounds kinda funny. And if you have no clue what a doula is, you definitely are not the only one. The meaning of doula is "service to women" and it is the heart of the hard work or better yet "heart work" that we do. Here is a run down of what we often do from pregnancy to bringing baby home.

As DONA trained doulas, we have been trained and equipped with in depth knowledge of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. From the moment you become part of our family, we are there to educate you on pregnancy and birth, listen to your questions and concerns, and help you navigate the waters of expecting a little one. If desired, we help you create a birth plan that fits your family and guide you through what you can anticipate. We are with you from the beginning of labor until delivery to encourage you and remind you how strong you are when you need it most. When push comes to shove (literally), our hands on techniques help get you through the physical discomfort of labor. And, once you look into those perfect little eyes, our support turns to postpartum care and breastfeeding. We are trained to help you get the breastfeeding bond started and provide you with tips and tricks to help you on your breastfeeding journey. As moms ourselves, we have also been there and know how your body is adjusting to bringing a baby into the world. We are a shoulder to cry on, an ear to listen, and a resource for all baby and momma care questions.

FMD knows that each momma, family, and birth is unique. From hospital to home, we know our families have different needs and we make sure that the services you receive are tailored to your situation. If you need childbirth education, we have you covered. If you are concerned that dad is going to need support, that's our job too. And the best part about us is that we work as a package deal; two doulas, two hearts, two minds, and two moms working for you.

Want to know more? Think you or someone you know would benefit from a doula? Send us a message. We would love to hear from you! Our initial consultations are always free. We believe we are all stronger together and we believe in our mission: strong moms, strong babies and strong families.

Mom Love,

Sarah & Brittany
