Celebrating Mother's Day with Strong Moms Week
Happy Mother's Day Week to all you strong moms out there. We are so excited to celebrate this week and we are celebrating by officially having it be "Strong Moms Week" here at FMD. Each day this week we are featuring one of our own moms who is part of our NEST Frederick community. These are all moms who we have been witness to their strength as they welcomed babies into the world and we are so excited to have them talk about their motherhood journey to encourage all of you.
The first strong mom this week is Marie McAndrews who welcomed a new baby this past January.
Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself and your family. What makes your strong family unique?
I’m a 33 year-old mom of two; I have a daughter who will be 3 this summer, and a son whom we just welcomed into the world at the end of January. In addition to my family, I work full-time, and have a part-time baking business. My husband has recently become a stay-at-home dad, taking care of our baby boy, while also completing a college certificate program. My husband and I are lucky enough to have most of our parents and siblings within a 20 minute drive of us. We are extremely close to our families; we’re always spending time together. I think that makes our own little family even stronger.
Q: Tell us about what being a strong mom means to you?
To me, being a strong mom means always being there for my kids (whether they need me or not), making the best decisions I can for them, and teaching them how to live happy and healthy lives. It also means not beating myself up if I can’t do something, or if I mess up. This part of being a strong mom is hard for me; but, I always try to remind myself what P90X trainer Tony Horton says, “Do your best and forget the rest!”
Q: When have you felt the strongest in motherhood?
I feel my strongest whenever I see my kids achieving new milestones and thriving. It is so rewarding, and reminds me that I’m doing my job as a mother.
Q: When have you felt the weakest?
I feel my weakest when I can't fix something that's gone wrong for my family. But, in those moments, I do the best I can for them, and remind myself that everything will be okay because we are strong together.
Q: Who is a strong mom in your life and why?
My mom is the strongest mom I know. After waiting 6 long years to become pregnant, my mom ended up having 3 girls within 4 years! I know we caused her plenty of stress and worry growing up so close together, but she always seemed to do everything right. I admire her grace, patience, and kind heart. And now, I love that my sisters and I are best friends; we owe that to the way my mom raised us.
Thanks to Marie for sharing. Now we want to hear from you. Show us your mom strength and tell us what makes your strong family unique on social media. Use the hashtag #fmdmomstrong
