FMD Welcomes Melissa

If you have been following along, you may have noticed a new face or two popping up on the FMD team. As summer began, we were looking for just the right people to step up and help Frederick Moms and Doulas expand and empower what we have to offer our mommas and families in an even bigger way. Luckily for us, this sweet ray of sunshine came knocking at the door and she was a perfect match.

We are so thankful that we have had Melissa along for the ride this summer as we launched NEST Frederick, served loads of moms, and celebrated expanding our services. Get to know Melissa more through her own account of becoming a mother. We know you will love her as much as we do! Welcome to the team, Melissa!

As my midwife looked at me and told me it was almost time to push, fear struck my core. My hands were shaking and tears rolled down my face, I looked up at my doula and she simply asked me, "what are you scared of?" I didn't feel ready, I didn't feel strong enough, and sadly, I didn't think I was going to be a good mother. But the time had come to meet my baby, whether I was ready or not. After only one of hour pushing, she was here. Kennedy Marie changed my world.

My heart, my soul, a little piece of me was wrapped up in a seven pound and thirteen ounce body. Feeling her skin on mine, listening to her innocent cry, and finally kissing those sweet cheeks, my world felt complete.

In the fews years leading up to my pregnancy and Kennedy's birth, I had dealt with depression that had me questioning my existence. What was my purpose in life? I never felt like I had one. Becoming a mother gave me a new purpose. Her little life depending on mine plus our endless love and bond we have, it filled my heart and lit up my world.

I want to bring joy and nurture to others' lives, that's why I decided to study nursing in college. A few months ago, Frederick Moms and Doulas posted they were in search of a summer intern. Having a doula for Kennedy's birth and understanding the value of a doula's presence during labor, I decided to apply. After meeting with Brittany and Sarah, I immediately knew I wanted to become a part of their team, and thankfully they felt the same way! I feel extremely blessed to be working for these loving ladies whose hearts beat for serving strong moms, strong babies, and strong families.

Becoming a mother at young age allowed me to grow in ways I never knew I needed. Becoming a mother gave me a new appreciation to how powerful and hardworking women are. Becoming a doula and supporting these beautiful families in life changing moments, is the most rewarding thing I have had the pleasure of being a part of.

Be on the lookout for more updates on our new team members and services as we step into yet another season of serving the Frederick community.
