Last July we launched NEST Frederick and started a journey with our moms who had delivered the first half of the year. Next week we start our second group we call NEST Spring 2018 as it will run from now through July. This is for moms who delivered in the second half of 2017. If you aren't familiar with NEST, this is what you need to know!
NEST stands for Nurture Empower Strengthen Together and came out of our desire to serve moms and walk them through their postpartum journey. As moms ourselves we felt that it was difficult to join in mom groups. Kids were always older or in different stages, relationships already seemed already formed by the time we joined and IF we made it through one meet-up we rarely made it to two.
NEST groups were created to fill that void. They are designed to group moms based on when they delivered and walk with them together through the postpartum period. All groups meet once a month for six months and are led by a doula on our team. We have different topics to not only help you along your journey, but also to build relationships within your group.
Topics include: Your birth story, feeding, self-care and community among other things. Guest speakers are often invited in and the hour and a half long meetings include a brief talk and activity and then time to connect.
Groups meet in person once a month, but also have an online community moderated by one of our team members. Online groups begin as soon as you join the community and are placed in a NEST group based on your due date. You can start connecting and begin to get to know one another throughout pregnancy.
